Architecture

Architecture can be defined both as an art and a system of buildings and constructions making up dimensional environment for social life of humans. Thus, architecture is an art of designing and constructing buildings in accordance with a certain artistic idea or concept. In a wider sense of this word architecture is the activity of designing any kind of a system (architecture in programming, science, management etc.) although in this case it cannot be considered as an art in every sense of the word. The artistic figures in architecture play an important role in the life of the society. As a rule functional, constructional and aesthetic qualities of architecture are interconnected.
Works of architectural art are buildings with organized internal space, ensembles of buildings, as well as constructions serving for designing open spaces (monuments, terraces, embankments etc.).
At present time the nature of the architectural art has changed considerably due to the qualitative changes in technologies of building, invention of new construction equipment, changes in architectural engineering, creation of new constructions and materials. All this, together with changes in modern artistic trends, have influenced modern architecture considerably. Industrial methods of works connected with the general tendency to increase the speed of construction of large-scale objects, as well as standardization of constructions and details are distinctive features of modern architecture.
