Art therapy

Today art is not only a creative way of expressing feelings by means of visual objects or arranged sounds or movements and so on, but also an effective method of curing various mental diseases and disorders.
Art therapy is a method of psychotherapy that for the treatment purposes uses various artistic objects and creative work as it is, for example drawing, modeling, photography, literature, acting, dancing and many others.
Art therapy can be used for treatment of people of all ages and this method has no contraindications. For example, if a person has a severe depression due to loss of a beloved one or traumas, neurotic disorders or many other disorders, art therapy can help this person to recover. The matter is that the patient switches his attention to certain creative work that allows him or her to reveal his inner world through such artistic work, as well as to focus on aesthetical aspects of such works instead of focusing on negative facts that may have detrimental effect on his mental health. Thus, the major function of art therapy is maintaining or even improving mental health. Besides, this type of therapy is often widely supported by the society and the artistic works of such patients are sold by auctions which renders moneyed assistance to those who work with mentally impaired people.
The main goal of art therapists is to discover the non-verbal signs and symbols and by helping their patients to understand what underlying meaning is in their artwork to improve their mental condition.
