Dance

Dance can be characterized as melody and rhythm put in the form of melodic and rhythmic movements of the human body, revealing people's feelings and thoughts. Dance is a non-verbal way of the human self-expression. Artistic figures are created by means of plastic movements as well as rhythmical and accurate change of expressive positions of the human body. Dance is inseparably connected with music, whose artistic, figurative and emotional meaning is expressed by means of choreographic compositions, movements and figures.

Dancing has existed during the whole history, evolving and reflecting the major cultural traditions of different nations. Today there are hundreds of types and styles and genres of dancing.

It is notable that dancing is not a positive phenomenon in many countries of the world. For example, in Muslim countries dancing, especially striptease is considered as something immoral and shameful.

Today there are many dancing styles. Break-dance is an especially popular modern street style that is a part of the hip-hop culture. It appeared in 1970 among African American teenagers in New York City. This dance emerged as an alternative to drug dealing and violence among young people in urban districts of America. Together with the hip-hop subculture break-dancing spread to European and then other cultures. Today it is popular all around the world and has many subtypes and varieties. Every year hundreds of competitions, or so called "battles" are held for b-boys or b-girls (a common name for break-dancers).
